Biogas Plants

Biogas typically refers to a gas produced by the biological breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen. Organic waste such as dead plant and animal material, animal feces, and kitchen waste can be converted into a gaseous fuel called "Biogas".

Biogas originates from biogenic material and is a type of biofuel.During the conversion process pathogen levels are reduced and plant nutrients made more readily available, so better crops can be grown while existing resources are conserved.

Composition of Biogas

  • Methane, CH4                              50-75%
  • Carbon dioxide, CO2                   25-50%
  • Nitrogen, N2                                 0-10 %
  • Hydrogen, H2                               0-1 %
  • Hydrogen sulphide, H2S              0-3 %
  • Oxygen, O2                                  0-2 %

Composition depends upon the material feeded and process nature.
